The effects of climate change can no longer be stopped by reducing carbon emissions. Many nations are coming to the realization that they must begin preparing for the climate catastrophe. With this acknowledgment, UNEP offers governments financial assistance and technical support to help them develop climate resilience.

An approach to climate change adaptation known as „ecosystem-based adaptation“ makes use of ecosystem services and natural solutions. For example, reforestation can prevent desertification and replenish groundwater supplies during dry spells, protecting coastal habitats like mangroves offers natural flood defenses, and water bodies like rivers and lakes offer natural drainage to lessen flooding.
